Bhaskar M Kamble of Vashim finished second in 2.37.26 seconds followed by Chandrapur's Nilesh Bodhe in 2.39.16 seconds. Kamble and Bodhe took home R75,000 and R50,000 respectively.


Deepchand

Deepchand, who won the Mawana Sugars Indian Open marathon in February and also participated in the World Military Games, says he won despite not giving his all. "I got a pull in my thigh muscle, hence I took it light and didn't try to better my best timing of 2.19.00. This was like training for me as there wasn't much competition," said Deepchand, whose biggest rival, fellow ASI runneru00a0 Lyngkhoi Bining skipped the event.

Meanwhile, Western Railway's Kiran Tiwari won the women's half marathon. Olympian Dhanraj Pillay, current hockey sensation Yuvraj Valmiki, legendary runner P T Usha, national athlete Kavita Raut and Bollywood actress Mahima Chaudhary were some of the celebrities who graced the event.u00a0 More than 200 participants had to be treated for cramps, bruises and dehydration.
