When one speaks of defenders, you usually determine them in terms of creating great challenges, well-timed tackles or blocking sure-shot goals. But Tanishq Boudhankar of Arya Vidyamandir (Bandra) did something more exceptional to get a rousing applause from his teammates.

The Bandra side's right-back struck an all important equaliser in the dying minutes to register their first point as they held Andheri's Hansraj Morarji to a 2-2 draw in the Mumbai School Sports Association's Boys under-16 Division III tournament at Azad Maidan yesterday.

Boudhankar was all gung ho about the efforts shown by his teammates after giving their opponents an ill-timed lead before the break. He claimed that an effective performance like this could help them fulfill their dreams of proceeding through the group stage. "I think all our players played their hearts out and a performance like this should certainly lift the spirits and the confidence when we take the field next time," he added.

However, he wasn't all praise for his fellow defenders. "It wasn't a great performance from our defenders. They looked rusty and couldn't man-mark at crucial junctures which did hurt us," said Boudhankar.

Fifteen-year-old Boudhankar finds the game of football as a perfect stress-buster and loves bunking classes for his sessions with the sport. "I like this game. I don't play it for fun but to get myself relieved from stress and the pressure of studies," said Boudhankar, a Barcelona fan who wishes to make a career in medicine.

Arya Vidyamandir struck first blood in the first half when forward Rishabh Kakkad found the net off Neev Tinna's delightful cross from the right. But, soon, they found themselves trailing when Hansraj Morarji's Shahnawaz Shaikh struck twice before the break to give his side the lead only to it concede later.
