Gautam Gambhir may lead Indiau00a0 in the five-match ODI series against New Zealand if regular skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is given a break.

It is believed that senior batsmenu00a0 Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar have already requested for a break in order to reach South Africa early for the high-profile Test series in December.

It is learnt that Gujarat's Parthiv Patel is the frontrunner to get a recall to keep wickets in Dhoni's absence.
It will be a challenge for the selectors to pick a side sans some senior players but a competitive one to tackle the Kiwis. The selectors meet today to pick the squad for the five-match one-day series against New Zealand and the three-Test series in South Africa.
