Hyderabad: Who said only males can hit the racetrack? Fourteen-year-old Mira Erda, the only female karting racer in India currently, is giving the boys a tough challenge in the 11th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Rotax Karting Championship held at the Lahari Resort here.

The Dark Don Racing team member, Mira, clocked 7 mins 45.446 seconds in the second heat in the Junior Max (age 13 to 16) category on Saturday.
What made you take up racing? "I always wanted to do something different than others to show the world that girls can also compete with boys. I decided to go with racing. It is a dangerous sport, but there is quite a lot of fun," Mira told SUNDAY mid-day.
Baroda-lass Mira, who took up karting at the age of 10, thanked her father Kirit for the encouragement. "I first saw racing on TV. I told my father (who runs a karting track in Baroda) about it and he agreed to support me," said Mira, whose dream is to be India's first Formula One female driver.
Meanwhile, Mumbai-lad Ameya Bafna of Rayo Racing bagged the pole position in Senior Max category clocking 7:40:499 in heat two on Saturday.
