Chicago: Albina Maddon, Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon’s 83-year-old mother, got to see her son’s team play in the World Series thanks to an assist from the Chicago Police Department.
Alas for her, she watched the Cleveland Indians edge her son’s Cubs 1-0 on Friday to seize a 2-1 lead in Major League Baseball’s best-of-seven championship final.
Maddon’s mom, nicknamed "Beanie," was greeted by police at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Friday night after her flight arrived from Philadelphia, delayed due to a plane fire on a Chicago runway.
"I definitely appreciate our local police force getting her here in time," Maddon said.
