It was a rather awkward moment for British television show Good Morning Britain's presenter Charlotte Hawkins yesterday when she called Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps a "swinger" by mistake. She had to stop and apologise to viewers for the accident halfway through her sentence, saying: "I know nothing... there's no breaking news!"

Her co-presenters Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh couldn't stop laughing as the crew applauded the live gaffe, reported The Sun. This happened when she announced: "The world's most decorated Olympian, swinger -- swimmer -- Michael Phelps will race against a great white shark...."

Hawkins, 42, then apologised and said, "Sorry, everyone, that was not at all supposed to happen! I apologise to Michael Phelps, I know nothing! I'm not announcing anything, there's no breaking news! I absolutely meant to say swimmer." Even as Hawkins tried to normalise things, her co-presenter Ranvir jokingly said: "You might have to swim very fast out of this one!"

Phelps has filmed a 100m race against a great white shark in open water off Cape Town, South Africa, which the Discovery Channel will screen on Sunday.
