Rohtak: Rio Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik on Sunday got engaged to fellow wrestler Satyawart Kadian at her residence in Rohtak.


Kadian, who trains at his father's akhada, competes in the 97kg freestyle category and had bagged a bronze medal at the 2010 Youth Olympics and silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old wrestler had earlier spoken about her boyfriend Satyawart, 22, two years younger to her, in the media.

"It was a private function. Only the families of the to-be bride and groom attended the event and it went very well," Satyawart's father Arjuna Awardee Satyavan Pehelwan said.

The two were said to have fallen in love during wrestling tournaments.

About Satyawart, Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi had earlier said, "He is very supportive and thinks of my dreams as his own."

Sakshi became a national hero overnight after she ended India's medal drought at the Rio Olympics by clinching bronze in the women's 58kg category.
