The last time they met, Carolina Marin of Spain beat India's PV Sindhu. So the Rio Olympics women's singles badminton final face-off will not be just for the gold medal, but also a revenge tie.

23-year-old Marin thrashed 21-year-old Sindhu 21-17, 21-9 in their last encounter at the Hong Kong Superseries in November 2015.

Marin, who is the World No 1 has a slight advantage over Sindhu since she has won four of the seven encounters between the two.

Sindhu, the World No. 10, who will be looking to ending ace shooter Abhinav Bindra's reign as the country's sole individual Olympic gold-medallist, understands Marin's game. But Marin has been in terrific form. Marin, the world champion, after all beat defending Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China 21-14, 21-16 to enter her maiden Olympic final.
