The joy of winning their 39th Ranji title would have reduced a bit for Mumbai as long-time wicket-keeper Vinayak Samant announced that yesterday's final against Karnataka was his last match for Mumbai.

The diminutive 37-year-old, who made his debut for Mumbai seven seasons ago, has been a huge support to the team with his pranks and jovial nature.

"We'll surely miss him. I've been his roommate since I started playing for Mumbai and he's been great. If I failed to score in a match, he would encourage me and that helped," said Ajinkya Rahane, in his third first-class season.

"Even when things are a bit tense in the dressing room, he'd say something funny to lighten things up. His absence in the dressing room will be felt," he added.

Mumbai coach Praveen Amre is hoping the youngsters look at Samant as a role model.

"His work ethics and commitment are incredible. What he has achieved at this age is truly remarkable. And he is always ready to help the team and has always given more than what is asked of him. He's been a great asset to the side," Amre said.
