Defending champion Neeraj Chopra stormed into the men’s javelin throw final of the World Athletics Championships in style after clearing the automatic qualification mark of 84.50m in his very first throw here on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old two time Olympic-medallist sent his spear to 84.85m in his first throw in the Group A of the qualification round.

However, the Indian was upstaged by Germany Julian Weber (87.21m) and Poland’s Dawid Wegner (85.67m).

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, was on the brink of a shock exit in Group B when he finally registered a throw of 85.28m in his third and final attempt. However, he finished third in his group, behind Grenada’s Anderson Peters (89.53m), and Kenya’s Julius Yego (85.96m).

India’s Sachin Yadav also made it to the final round with a throw of 83.67m.
