Apple Inc. is set to expand its retail footprint in India with the launch of a new store in Bangalore, the country’s southern tech hub.
The outlet, located in the upscale Mall of Asia, will open its doors to customers on September 2, the company announced on Thursday, according to Bloomberg.

Apple is making every iPhone 17 model in India for the first time
Apple Inc. is scaling up iPhone production in India, with five factories, including two newly opened plants, now manufacturing devices bound for the United States. For the first time, all four upcoming iPhone 17 models, including the premium Pro versions, will be produced in India ahead of their global debut next month, according to people familiar with the matter, according to the news agency Bloomberg.
The company has steadily shifted a bulk of its US-focused iPhone output from China to India to reduce tariff exposure. The latest expansion covers Tata Group’s plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, and Foxconn’s new facility near Bangalore Airport, both of which have recently gone online. Over the next two years, Tata’s facilities alone are expected to account for up to half of India’s total iPhone production, the people said.
India’s role in Apple’s supply chain has grown sharply. Between April and July this year, the country exported 7.5 billion dollars worth of iPhones, compared with 17 billion dollars across the whole of the previous fiscal year, as per Bloomberg.
Neither Apple nor Tata commented on the development, while Foxconn did not respond to requests.
Earlier this year, Apple shifted the majority of its US demand to India to cushion the impact of Chinese export tariffs. The company recently projected a 1.1 billion dollars tariff-related headwind this quarter, though iPhones remain exempt from broader sectoral tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.
The iPhone 17 lineup, which includes a new slimmed-down model and redesigned Pro devices featuring an upgraded rear-camera system, will anchor Apple’s latest strategy. The company is also preparing to manufacture the iPhone 17e in India next year, following this year’s 16e, with early plans already in place for iPhone 18 production in the region, according to Bloomberg.
The expansion cements India as a cornerstone of Apple’s manufacturing base, even as the company navigates shifting US trade policies. CEO Tim Cook has pledged 600 billion dollars in US investments over the next four years, partly aimed at ensuring India-made iPhones continue to enjoy tariff exemptions. Apple expects the majority of iPhones sold in the US to soon originate from India.
