With the launch of the Apple iPhone 17 series, the demand for Apple’s flagship device has picked up pace in India. News agency IANS, quoting industry sources, asserted that pre-orders have been stronger than last year.
The surge comes at a time when Apple has been steadily increasing its “Made in India” push, expanding both local manufacturing and retail presence in the country, reported IANS.
Pre-orders for iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro opened on September 12, and the flagship series has since seen great interest across all Apple’s online stores and retail outlets in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Bengaluru.
The industry research team sources quotes above by IANS say that Apple’s 17 series iPhones have managed to create a strong buzz among Indian consumers. With the new iPhone 17 Air also attracting attention for its titanium design that is light, sleek, and durable, the demand in the market has been much higher than for the previous generation iPhones.
Considering the fact that Apple is betting big on India, experts feel that India not only has high potential in the smartphone market but can also emerge as a major manufacturing hub. Apple has been expanding its retail network to meet growing demand, reported IANS.
Earlier this month, the tech giant opened two new stores in Bengaluru and Pune, timed just before the iPhone 17 launch.
Apple first entered India’s retail space in April 2023 with its flagship Mumbai store at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), followed by Apple Saket in Delhi.
Together, the two stores clocked around Rs 800 crore in revenue in their debut year, making them Apple’s top-performing outlets globally.
However, one thing that stood out for Apple was that nearly 60 per cent of this revenue came from the smaller Saket store, showing the strength of the company's growing Indian consumer base.
This was despite the company already having a large network of premium resellers and strong online partnerships with Flipkart and Amazon.
CEO Tim Cook, on September 9, launched the latest generation iPhone during Apple’s ‘Awe Dropping’ event. The iPhone 17 lineup starts at Rs 82,900 for the base 256GB model. However, the most exciting smartphone among the lineup is the all-new iPhone Air. The super-slim smartphone from Apple has been designed with perfection that offers great battery life and amazing performance. Starting at a price of Rs 1,19,900, iPhone Air could surely turn out to be a game-changer in the smartphone market.
