With lives in metros becoming busier and more tech-savvy, tools that enable fast messaging have become an integral part of our lives. While most users use texting as a medium of communication, others believe in taking it to the next level.

According to a survey, conducted by Synovate and Microsoft, most users use services like SMS, MMS, and instant messaging (IM) for romancing their spouses, partners, or others.

The study conducted in the Asian Pacific region, has provided interesting insights into how people in urban India are using their mobile phones.

In taking relationships to the next level, Chinese (58%) and Indians (54%) are most likely to find it acceptable for marriage proposals to occur over their mobile phones.

The study also revealed that SMS, MMS and IM have been used for sending or receiving adult content (13%), to end relationship with their partners (8%) and even to quit their job (5%). In fact, 19% of the respondents feel it is acceptable to fire someone over the cellphone.

The survey also revealed that 71 per cent Japanese women check SMS and call history on their husband's mobile phone. While in India, around 60 per cent women followed suit, and around 47 per cent males checked their partner's mobile chat history.

However, more men than women in India are keen to use the global positioning system in their handsets to track the whereabouts of their spouse (46% men as compared to 33% women).
