The Guide speaks to the drummer of city-based Classical Rock band, Strange Brew, who will be playing sans a keyboard

The name Strange Brew conjures images of weird concoctions that can give you a tummy ache but city-based classical rock band of the same name has its reasons. After all, these were four musicians belonging to diverse musical backgrounds who came together to form a cohesive group.

Formed in 1999, Strange Brew has a mix of individuals who have spent over 19 years in the music business. The band released their album 'Just Brewed' in 2003, over 4,000 copies of which have already been sold. They have played all over the country with bands like Ezee Meat, X-Ost, Fusion Ensemble, Mystic Frost, Karma and Jet Set.

"We are coming up with a Hindi Rock album. The recording is over and we hope to get the final mix done by October/November," says Sanjeev, speaking of their upcoming plans. Interestingly, this Rock and Blues band has been playing Hindi music for quite sometime. "Since the last six years, we are performing Hindi music. We also play various genres like Pop, Rock, Reggae, Fusion and Jazz as well," he adds.

For their upcoming performance, Strange Brew will be playing original tracks. "We have a list of 500 songs from which we'll play around 20. We'll try to add covers too like Bad Company, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and others," says Sanjeev. He claims the songs they perform will be unique. "There will be no keyboards as songs without keyboard are tighter and more fun. The moment a keyboard comes in, the genre changes," explains Sanjeev.

Does Bollywood figure on their list? "That's why we are releasing a Hindi album. But if and when we do music for Bollywood, it will be our own style. We like it that way," he signs off.
