A 19-year-old biker rammed into a policeman at 7 Bungalows in the early hours of Sunday while trying to avoid being caught drunk driving near a nakabandi.

Shahid Mehmood Tungarkar, a resident of Versova and a small time DJ, was returning home after a party with a friend on his bike yesterday. At around 3.15 am, Tungarkar saw a nakabandi at 7 Bungalows in Andheri. Afraid of being caught drunk, he sped up, collided into Assistant Police Inspector Balaji Dahisale, who was part of the nakabandi team. Tungarkar lost control of his bike and crashed onto the ground, after which the police apprehended him.

Cops said that Dahisale suffered injuries on his head, chest and legs and was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. The accused too suffered minor injuries. A police officer from Versova police station said, “There were nakabandis all around after the murder in Oshiwara on Saturday. The accused said that he got afraid when he saw the police since he was drunk. He was already speeding and on seeing us, he tried to escape. In the process, he collided into the officer and fell on the ground.”

He added, “The condition of API Dahisale is critical, and he is currently in the ICU. The accused has been arrested for drink driving, rash driving and causing grievous hurt.”u00a0
