Kalmadi says he will answer all CBI questions

Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said he has not committed any offence and is ready to answer all the questions of the Central Bureau of Investigation. He also said he will make a statement in parliament.

"I welcome the investigations (into the financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games). I will give a statement in parliament and I have met Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar today (Monday) and she said whenever the house runs I can make the statement," Kalmadi told reporters outside parliament.

Kalmadi said the matter is sub judice but he wants to tell parliament that he is not at fault and is ready to answer all the question of the federal investigative agency.

"The budget of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee was between Rs 1,500 crore and Rs 1,700 crore, but we only spent Rs 1,400 crore," he said.

"We were not involved in the construction work related to the Commonwealth Games. Our work was to organise the Games, including the closing and opening ceremony," he added.

The CBI on November 15 arrested TS Darbari and Sanjay Mohindroo - two of Kalmadi's former aides - for their alleged involvement in the Queen's Baton Relay scam.
