A sudden power outage left parts of T2 at Mumbai Airport in absolute darkness for at least ten minutes last night. The blackout took place around 10.40 pm, when the immigration area, level 1 and the city side of T2 were completely dark.

According to fliers, it took about 20 minutes to get the power running again, but airport officials said electricity supply resumed in 10 minutes. A China-bound passenger, Siva Sankar, said, “Many families and small children panicked during this time. No one could understand what had happened.

There was no announcement made by the airport either,” said Sankar, adding that no efforts were made to help calm the passengers by the airport staff.

While Sankar said it took him as long as 45 minutes to clear the queue for immigration, airport officials said that operations continued at a smooth pace at the terminal.
“The immigration officials ignored the power outage and continued heir work, which led to reduced pressure when the electricity finally came back on,” said one of the officials.
