A 25-year-old undertrial, jailed in a kidnapping case, has fled from the JJ hospital with her three-year-old daughter who was undergoing treatment there.

“The JJ Marg police have registered a case against the woman and launched a manhunt,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma said.

Zubaida Khatun was lodged in the Byculla woman’s prison since 2012 in a kidnapping case at Shivaji Nagar police station.

On Friday morning, the cops from local arms brought Khatun and her daughter to the hospital after her daughter complained of some health issue. In the afternoon Khatun managed to dodge cops and fled with her daughter, said a police officer.

After the incident, a case was registered at the JJ Marg police station under Section 224 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of Indian Penal Code.

The police have started investigation and checking the CCTV installed in the hospital to get some clue. Investigators have also contacted Shivaji Nagar police station to get details on Khatun’s background. Police will also check the phone call details of Khatun’s family members to get information on her.
