Two beat constables try to stop the motorcycle-borne youngsters for not wearing helmet; duo slows down and decamps with device when cops attempt to use it to inform the control room
Two traffic beat constables received the shock of their lives when two bike-borne men rode off with their walkie-talkie. The cops had asked the men to stop their motorcycle, since the rider wasn’t wearing a helmet. The men ignored them and rode ahead, and when the policeman tried calling the control room through his walkie-talkie, the pillion rider snatched it. A case has been registered with the Bangur Nagar police station.

According to the Bangur Nagar police, the incident occurred a stone’s throw away from the beat chowky near Inorbit Mall, Malad (West) on Thursday night. Traffic constables Sanjay Bhagwan Rane and his colleague were on nakabandi duty and were checking all motorists. Two men on a black Pulsar came along; the rider wasn't wearing a helmet.
When the traffic police tried to stop them to ask for their licence and registration papers, the youngsters — both in their twenties — paid no heed and rode on. When one of the cops tried calling the control room through his walkie-talkie to tell them about the rule breakers, the pillion rider snatched the device and they rode off. Both constables failed to note down the licence plate number of the bike, police sources said.
An eyewitness confirmed the incident, adding that the duo even abused the two policemen while fleeing.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Goregaon region) Uttam Khermode said, “The accused snatched the deviceand ran away. We have checked CCTV footage of the area, including the camera installed outside Inorbit Mall, but we did not get clear pictures of them.”
Khermode added that the police would collect mobile data of all people who were present in the area. Based on the location, further investigation will be carried out. A case under Section 390 (robbery) has been registered.
