A firing incident took place on Tuesday night outside a jewellery shop where a couple of robbers opened fire at the owner of the shop and made way with a gold chain in Virar east in Palghar district.

The victim is battling for his life and probe is on to nab the accused.

According to the sources, the incident took place on Tuesday evening around 8:30 pm at Sainath nagar, Virar when one youth in his early 20s entered the shop to check out gold chains. When the jewellery shop owner, Kishan Singh was showing him the chains, the youth snatched one chain from Singh and ran away from the shop. His accomplice was waiting for him on a bike wearing a helmet.

Singh chased him outside the shop and caught him by his collar, while his accomplice sat on the bike.

Singh had overpowered him but due to the fear of getting caught, the robber pulled out a firearm and fired bullets at Singh. Singh is said to have suffered four bullet injuries. The accused succeeded in escaping from the spot.

Eye witnesses who heard Singh's screams reached the spot and rushed Singh to Sanjivani hospital from where he was shifted to JJ hospital in Central Mumbai.

Five police teams have been made to crack the gruesome crime. It is learnt that Singh's family members have handed over CCTV feeds from the camera inside his shop to police. The sketch of the accused is being made. A case of attempt to murder and robbery has been filed by the police. Further probe is on.
