Popular band Medival Punditz postpones event after last week's police trouble at venue
After the performance by Infected Mushroom got disrupted at a popular lounge last week, another well known band, Medival Punditz, has decided to postpone its event scheduled at the same venue.
The police had barged into the lounge in Koregaon Park on Thursday and stopped the show, saying the deadline had been flouted.
The event organisers for the Infected Mushroom performance had got the necessary permission only at 9.30 pm to run the show till 10 pm. There was chaos as the crowd got upset and police resorted to lathi-charge.
Vishal Gore, Dream Theatres Entertainment, who is organising the Medival Punditz event, said they had decided to postpone the event. "We are being extra cautious to avoid similar problems. We will ensure that we get all the necessary documents in place. And we want the fans to take a breather before the next event," said Gore.
The lounge on its part has decided to be careful in the future. Navtej Sawhney, co-owner of the lounge, said, "We have taken a management decision that in the future we will not hire out the place and it's a firm decision."
The police have decided to get stricter with nightclubs and other venues. Senior officials said giving permission only till 10 pm for performances was a Supreme Court decision, which they were implementing.
DCP Sanjay Jadhav, Zone IV, said, "All nightclubs know that they have to procure proper licences and if they do not do that, they have to face the music."
