Kolkata: Coming out in the open in support of Aamir Khan, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said it was his democratic right to speak his mind, "whether right or wrong", and nobody had the right to ask the actor to go to Pakistan.

"Whatever Aamir has said, whether it is correct or not, this is his personal right," Banerjee said refering to the Bollywood hero's controversial remarks that his wife Kiran Rao had discussed moving out of India in view of growing intolerance, fearing safety of their children.

"His wife told him something. And he talked about it. It is his democratic right. He is being asked to leave the country."

Obviously targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sangh parivar, she said some people were behaving as if the country belonged only to them.

"This is our place of birth, place of work. Nobody has the right to tell anybody that you got to Pakistan, you leave the country. We are all Indians," she said addressing a congregation organised by prominent Muslim leader Siddiqullah Chowdhury.
