Ranji Trophy Round-up: Uttar Pradesh fail to chase down 94-run target vs Rlys

On a dicey pitch at the Ekana Stadium, Uttar Pradesh lost a battle of attrition against Railways in their opening Ranji Trophy match within three days. Requiring just 94 for a win, the home team collapsed for a mere 72 in just 26 overs to lose a match which they had dominated till they began their chase. No doubt, the ball kept quite low, but in any conditions one expects a team to chase down a sub-100 target.

Of course, the fighting spirit of the Railways team also needs to be highlighted. They never lost heart despite being on the back foot till almost the end. Relying on seam bowler Anureet Singh and left-arm spinner Ashish Yadav, they tightened the noose around the UP batmen. Only Suresh Raina (29) and Rinku Singh (22 not out), put up a semblance of resistance. When these two batsmen were at the crease, it seemed UP may after all, pull it off, but once Raina fell leg before to left-arm pacer Deepak Bansal, it was a downslide all the way.

Saurashtra beat Haryana
Rohtak: In a group 'B' match, Saurashtra seamers Jaydev Unadkat (3-55) and Shaurya Sanandia (2-18) helped bundle out Haryana for 140 in their second innings as Saurashtra won by an innings and 31-runs.

Forced to follow on after being bundled out for 107 in their first innings, Haryana's batsmen failed to show any improvement, except Chaitanya Bishnoi, who made 56.
