Babu Lal's trip abroad is now in jeopardy. The east Delhi resident was robbed of cash, including some foreign currency and jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh on Sunday. Six armed robbers struck at the house of the businessman who deals in cables and wires in Vishwas Nagar area, and was busy in preparations for a trip to China. A senior police official said that the incident took place at around 7.30 am.

The victim has alleged that the robbers took off with 6000 US dollars, 80,000 rupees in cash and jewellery worth Rs 13 lakh. "The robbers might have conducted a recce before striking.

They knocked at his door; Babul Lal opened it and was taken hostage at knifepoint. The robbers asked the family members to hand over all the valuables. They then fled with the loot," said a police official.

The family then called the police ten minutes of the incident. Babu Lal said that his wife, Angoori Devi and daughter-in-law Rani were present in the house when the robbery was committed. He told the police that he had kept the US dollars as he had to go China in connection with his business.

Police said that they have taken the statement of family members and are looking into the allegations. A crime team was also sent to the spot to collect finger prints of the accused from the scene. "Our investigations in the matter are on. We hope to make an early arrest," said the police official.

Eleven people, including a man who had a hand in 47 cases, were arrested for their involvement in armed robberies and pickpocketing incidents from the Kashmere Gate bus terminal in the Capital, police said Thursday.

The arrested men would travel in a car near bus stands and railway stations to rob people in buses and auto-rickshaws.

Forty-year-old Charanjeet has been identified as the kingpin, and has 47 cases lodged against him. The other accused areu00a0-- Suraj Pal, 45, Tinku, 28, Bhagwan Das, 34, Imtiaz, 28, Mahesh Kumar, 45, Rakhi, 33, Deen Dayal, 41, Ram Chander, 45, Vinod, 33, and Inderjeet, 35.

"Three country-made pistols and four live cartridges were recovered from their possession," said Deputy Commissioner of Police SS Yadav. "Charanjeet was first arrested in 1993 in a robbery case," he added.
