The July 19-20 revelry to celebrate 75 years of the legislature has been deferred to October in the wake of the terror attacks

The grand celebrations of the state legislature, which was scheduled on July 19 and 20, have been postponed following the serial blasts that left 17 people dead and 131 injured.

The celebration to mark the legislature's 75 years was to be a two-day gala attended by President Pratibha Patil and other netas as reported by MiD DAY ('Rs 5.5 crore party as Legislature turns 75').

However, in a meeting at Vidhan Bhavan attended by State Council chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh, Assembly Speaker Dilip Walse Patil, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister R R Patil and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Patil, a decision to delay the celebration was taken as it was deemed to be inappropriate.

"Our sentiments are with the families affected by the blasts. The function may be held sometime in October," said Patil.
