Harold Camping, the head of Family Radio who predicted May 21, 2011, as the day when the world will end, is now backtracking his statement and has now come up with a new date for the catastrophe October 21, 2011.

However, many claim the new doomsday will occur on December 21, 2012. CS brings you some info on this new date and other famous doomsday predictions:

The so-called '2012 Phenomenon' is not only derived from the Mayan calendar, but also includes scientific factors such as galactic alignment, the gravitational effect on natural disasters, and a geomagnetic reversal.

Both religious and non-religious, scientific and non-scientific sources, and numerous eschatological beliefs support that apocalyptic events will occur on December 21, 2012.

In 1835, Joseph Smith founded the Mormon Church. God, he said, had spoken to him. Smith said that within the next 56 years (within 1891), Jesus would reappear to mark the Judgement day.u00a0u00a0

One Ronald Weinland, an American Church man, predicted that 2010 will be the end of the world. Only made a 'messenger of God' in 1997, Weinland quickly got his act together and shut himself up in a room.

Isaac Newton, amidst discovering the laws of the world, put a date to the end of the world on the back of an envelope, which was discovered in 2003. Newton predicts that the earth will crumble in the year 2060.
