Why Andheri's newest bar and grill is worth a visit

Andheri has a new tipple point, intriguingly called Bulldog Bar and Grill. With booming music, cliché grungy grey walls and Walter White boring his meanness from a poster, expect badass food at your table

Why Andheri's newest bar and grill is worth a visit

Bulldog’s Bar & Grill
Food: Tasty
Service: Average
Ambiance: Loud

Bulldog’s Bar & Grill is the second place in Andheri (W) that seems to be banking on one’s love for ‘dogs’ (the other being Heaven’s Dog). This seems to be a ‘badass’ pitstop, with loud Trance music, umpteen road signs of London and a few posters of two wildly popular television series — Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones along with a spray-painted wall shouting out the word Heisenberg.

The place is structured with a bar and diner berths where few bar stools overlook the glass facade. There are also expansive wooden benches in the al fresco section on the other side of the facade. However, liquor can’t be served outside. The bar offers the usual suspects in cocktails, while a separate section offers imported beer brands like Asahi, Hoegaarden and Murphy’s London along with more options to glug from.

We attacked the long list of appetisers, sliders and burgers. Our first bet was The Bulldog’s Platter (Rs 551), which with its copious variety of chicken wings, pork sausages, a high potato and home grown mushrooms slider, fries and onion rings looked like a savoury delight. The chicken wings are sticky and succulent — always a good start. While the sausages whetted our appetite as we sipped on our boot-shaped beer glasses; the onion rings were too hard to crackle, and the rocket leaves doused in olive oil, salt and pepper hiked the sodium in our blood. The saving grace was the slider, which was so scrumptious that we hoped it would progress from a slider to a burger.

So, we ordered The Little Heisenburger (Rs 401) in its full form that was supposed to be deadly with its tenderloin mince. Stoking this lethal combination, there were strips of bacon (Rs 50) too. For those who are not addicted to TV series Breaking Bad, Heisenberg is the nickname of Walter White, originally a chemistry teacher who starts cooking drugs once he realises he has lung cancer. The patty was delicious but didn’t ‘break bad’ enough to be memorable once we wiped our plate clean.

The sore in our mouth was the Fried Prawns and Calamari (Rs 301), where both were overcooked, rubbery with a tough batter to crack again. Bulldog is hands-on with the grill but a little clumsy when it comes to the stove. With great ambiance for party-goers, we hope that it will widen its range of music as well.
