Zareen gets ready for Eid

It's time for biryani and sheer korma. Yes, Eid is here and actress Zareen Khan is in a celebratory mood. "This is the only time of the year when I like to look all feminine, complete with bangles and chandelier earrings. Otherwise, I am not at all an accessories person," says the pretty lady. CS catches up with her for a chat:

Who: Zareen Khan
What: Reliving her Eid memories
Where: At her Bandra residence

Double dhamaal
This year, it's going to be great fun because Eid and Ganpati are falling almost simultaneously. I will celebrate Eid with my family members and then head off to my friends' homes in the evening for Ganpati darshan. There is a lot of hustle and bustle in the house for Eid. The day starts with prayers and then heads to the kitchen to prepare biryani, sheer korma and other delicacies. Then, my nana (maternal grandfather) and other relatives join us for a big party. And of course, we all deck up in our new festive finery. As always, I will be wearing something traditional; perhaps a blue churidhar kurta, as blue's my favourite colour. It's been great shopping for Eid, but the thing with Eid shopping is that the more you visit the market, the more you want to buy.

Keeping the faith
I do believe in God, but I am not religious per se. By that I mean that I don't pray five times a day. However, I do visit dargahs and religious places. I couldn't fast all the 30 days this Ramzan. In my religion, you cannot even apply lipstick when you're fasting. It becomes a little tough to follow these things when you are an actor.

Up my street
As a child, a trip to Mohammed Ali Road was a must before Eid. We used to gorge on the sweets and shop for last minute knick-knacks like bangles, earrings, shoes, etc. I have great memories of family times during festive season out there. I love the area as it's completely lit up during Ramzan. Plus, you have the stalls selling some mouth-watering malpua, rabri, sweets and kebabs.

Best memories
The best Eid family celebrations were when my nani was alive. We used to have superb Iftaar parties and Eid lunches with the entire family. Also, as kids we would collect Eidi from our elders. Now, of course, no one will give me Eidi as I have grown up (laughs out loud).
