Golmaal director Rohit Shetty has joined hands with Ajay Devgan and producer Kumar Mangat for a film titled Sunday. Starring Devgan, Arshad Warsi and Ayesha Takia, the project is already underway.

However, few are aware that Sunday is a remake of the hit Telugu film, Anokunda Oka Roju. One of the biggest hits of 2005, the film starred south stars like Sashank, Jagapathi Babu and Charmme.

A source working on Sunday reveals, “Yes, Sunday is quite similar to Anokunda Oka Roju in terms of the plot and the characters. Rohit watched the film and was quite impressed with the storyline. Hence he decided to go ahead and make it in Hindi.”

Capital pride

While the Telugu film was set in the south, Sunday has been primarily shot in Delhi. Sources reveal that the schedules for the film have already covered popular places in the capital like Pragati Maidan, Lal Qila, India Gate, Connaught Place and others.

It is also learnt that Ajay was quite excited about the film when he heard about the subject. “It’s a thriller that revolves around some important issues but also has elements of comedy in it,” adds the source.

Ayesha Takia plays the lead role that was played by Charmme in the original, and Ajay Devgan plays Jagapathi Babu’s role while Arshad Warsi plays the one played by Shashank.

Producer Kumar Mangat admits that Sunday is a remake but adds that the script has been changed drastically from the original. “Sunday is inspired by a Tamil film. But I can’t recall the name of the original at the moment.

Also we have made several changes in the script. You can say that only 10 per cent of the original story has been retained in Sunday.” Sunday is scheduled for an October 2007 release.

What is Anokunda Oka Roju about?

Sahasra (Charmme Kaur) is a chorus singer struggling to make a career in playback singing. One night, she attends a wild party at the behest of a friend.

The next day, life seems as usual for Sahasra, only she is oblivious of one small detail, the next day is actually the day after.

And she is completely unaware of what happened during that one missing day in her life.

She realises something is amiss only when a few days later, she is chased by unidentified men who try to eliminate her.

The rest of the story is about finding the missing links and putting together the jigsaw puzzle.
