Arjun Rampal has found a new love. The actor, who plays a guitarist in Farhan Akhtar's Rock On, trained for three months to learn the instrument. Even though the film is ready for release, Arjun hasn't given up on his guitar. He not only plays it in his free time but also plans to perform for a live audience soon.
Arjun says he was happy to learn guitar because he's always been musically inclined. "I have always loved listening to music. In fact I've also DJ-ed. Music has been an intrinsic part of my life. Whenever I want to chill and relax I listen to The Doors, Eagles, Pink Floyd and a couple of other bands."
Learning basics
When he signed Farhan Akhtar's Rock On, Arjun decided to turn his long-time dream of learning to play guitar a reality. He learned to play from Chandresh who's the lead guitarist for Dream Out Loud. "He was very patient with me and got me going with the basics. It took me around three months to play the guitar on my own. One thing I realised is that anyone wanting to learn a new instrument needs to have a good ear for music. You have to be inclined towards music, whatever it maybe, only then can you master the instrument. In fact, everyone in the film has learnt to play the actual instruments."
Mere do-do guitar
Arjun didn't give up on his guitar after wrapping the film. In fact he's purchased two guitars for himself. An electric one and a box guitar. "I bought them from London. The electric guitar is a collectors edition while the box guitar is to play acoustic songs." The guitars make is Ibanez and cost anywhere between 50,000 to a 1 lakh.
Rampal adds now that he has learnt to play, his family and friends often request him to strum some song for them. "I cam play Hotel California by the Eagles, another song by Jim Morrison and a couple of other tunes. I am still learning different songs and it's great fun."
Will we see him performing on roads with the band? "Yes, we are planning to have some mini concerts where we perform songs from the film. I hope people like what we play!"
