Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on April 13 talked about the sequence of events that led to the arrest of the Bengaluru café blast case suspects from West Bengal. Talking to ANI, the Home Minister praised the NIA and Karnataka Police for arresting the accused. He also raised doubts about their involvement in Shivamogga blast. “NIA has done a wonderful job. Our Karnataka police have done a wonderful job. Both of them hail from Karnataka. They studied together. I was told initially that they are from Thirthahalli, Shivamogga district. We will find out whether they have any links with the other agencies. These two were supposed to have been involved in the earlier Shivamogga blast. They had escaped for almost 3-4 years. And now after this incident, they are caught. NIA will investigate further. And then our police also will find out because they are originally from Karnataka. So let us wait and see what comes out of the investigation...” said G Parameshwara.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal explains govt's plans to curb soaring onion prices

Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister of India Piyush Goyal met Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde in Delhi on August 22.  The meeting was to discuss a strategy to control the soaring prices of onion. Union Minister Piyush Goyal informed that NCCF and NAFED will be soon purchasing onions from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and other areas where onions are grown so that farmers get the right price for their produce. “We all know that in the past few days, as per the orders by Government of India, NAFED and NCCF purchased 3 lakh tons of onion from Nashik, Lasalgaon, Ahmednagar and this region. 40 per cent export tax has been imposed on onion so that there is an adequate quantity of onion available in India. From 11 am today, NCCF and NAFED will begin the purchase of 2 lakh more tons of onion from Nashik, Pimpalgaon, Lasalgaon, Ahmednagar and the entire region. More purchases will be made in the future if needed. NCCF and NAFED will also purchase onions from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and other areas where onions are grown so that farmers get the right price for their produce. The price for purchase today has been decided to be Rs 2410 per quintal. No farmer needs to worry,” said Piyush Goyal.

ISRO Chief explains what is different in Chandrayaan-3

ISRO Chairman, S Somanath on July 10 gave details of ISRO’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-3. He explained how this time ISRO has prepared for the lunar mission differently from Chandrayaan-2.  Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is scheduled to launch India’s third lunar mission to Earth’s lone natural satellite on July 14. Through this mission, ISRO plans to send a lander and a rover to the Moon. The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a follow-on to the Chandrayaan-2 mission, which ended in failure after the Vikram lander crashed into the lunar surface.  If ISRO is successful in pulling off the mission, India will join the exclusive list of countries whose satellites have managed a soft landing on the lunar surface. There are currently just three countries on that list: China, the United States, and the former Soviet Union.
