Goa, Vishwajit Rane
As Goa continues to urbanise, the state's efforts to strengthen city infrastructure, improve housing access, and introduce modern planning systems are likely to feature in discussions during the upcoming Assembly proceedings. Several initiatives associated with the government's urban development agenda, many supported and advocated by Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane may come up for review as legislators seek updates on their progress.
One of the initiatives that could attract attention is the introduction of 3D-based city planning under the Panaji Smart City Mission. The technology allows planners to use advanced digital modelling to visualise city growth, plan roads and utilities, and improve the design of public infrastructure. Supporters of the initiative believe that such technology-driven planning could help Goa manage future urban expansion in a more organised and sustainable manner.
Urban sustainability is another area where several developments have taken place. The state has been working to strengthen scientific waste management systems, including biomethanation plants and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), aimed at improving waste segregation and recycling while reducing pressure on landfills. These initiatives reflect a broader attempt to ensure that Goa's urban growth does not come at the cost of environmental balance.
Housing initiatives could also become part of the discussion. More than 2,800 families in Goa have already benefited under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, helping many residents move into safer and more stable housing. Observers note that such programmes are gradually addressing housing needs while supporting inclusive urban development.
Alongside infrastructure and housing, livelihood initiatives have also expanded across the state. Over 1,178 self-help groups have received support under urban livelihood missions, enabling women and community groups to develop small enterprises and strengthen economic independence.
In the past, Vishwajit Rane has emphasised the importance of infrastructure development in improving regional opportunities. Speaking about development needs in areas such as Sattari, he had highlighted how stronger infrastructure can support local growth and connectivity.
With these initiatives shaping Goa's evolving urban landscape, the upcoming Assembly session may provide an opportunity for the government to share updates and outline the next phase of development. Many will be watching closely to see how these projects are progressing and what further plans are presented to strengthen Goa's cities while maintaining sustainability and quality of life.
