The story of Stovekraft began not in a large manufacturing facility, but at a family retail outlet in Bengaluru. It was here that Rajendra J. Gandhi, Managing Director and Founder, Stovekraft Ltd., gained a close understanding of Indian households and what they looked for in their kitchens, an experience that would eventually shape his entrepreneurial journey.

That early exposure to consumers led him into manufacturing, beginning with gas stoves and eventually laying the foundation for Stovekraft. Over the years, the company's journey has been marked by several defining milestones, from securing venture capital funding and setting up an integrated 53-acre manufacturing facility in Karnataka to going public and building Pigeon and Gilma into recognised national brands.

The transition from retail to manufacturing and then to brand building also shaped Gandhi's approach to leadership. For him, growth has always been closely linked to understanding the consumer and staying grounded in the fundamentals of the business.

"The journey from retail to manufacturing and then to building brands has taught me that a business can scale only when it stays closely connected to the consumer. Along the way, building manufacturing capabilities, maintaining product consistency, expanding distribution and operating in a price-sensitive market presented their own challenges. Each of these experiences shaped my approach to leadership, staying close to the customer, maintaining operational discipline, empowering people and leading from the front." said Rajendra J. Gandhi, Managing Director and Founder, Stovekraft Ltd.

As the business grew, Gandhi's understanding of scale evolved as well. In the early stages, the focus is often on getting the product right, serving customers and solving immediate challenges. But building a sustainable organisation requires much more, from strong systems and processes to manufacturing capabilities, distribution and, most importantly, people.

For Stovekraft, this has meant continuing to focus on quality products at the right value while expanding its reach and capabilities. Mr. Gandhi believes that staying close to the consumer becomes even more important as an organisation grows, ensuring that scale does not distance the business from the needs it was originally built to address.

That consumer-first approach is now guiding the company into its next phase. The Indian kitchen is evolving, with consumers increasingly looking for products that offer greater convenience, better design, healthier cooking, energy efficiency and smarter functionality. This changing demand is creating opportunities for Stovekraft to enter new categories and continue investing in product innovation.

The company is also looking to deepen its physical and digital presence. Retail expansion, particularly through a franchise-led model, is expected to strengthen its presence across Tier II and Tier III markets, while its existing distribution and e-commerce networks provide wider access to consumers. Its global partnerships, meanwhile, create opportunities to take Stovekraft's manufacturing capabilities into international markets.

For Gandhi, the road ahead is therefore not simply about pursuing growth for its own sake. It is about bringing together the strengths built over decades, manufacturing, innovation, distribution and an understanding of the consumer, to create the next phase of Stovekraft's journey.

From a family retail outlet in Bengaluru to a business with national brands and manufacturing capabilities, the journey continues to be rooted in the same principle: understanding the consumer and building for what comes next.
