At Title Waves Bookstore in Mumbai, India, language educator and author Richa Gujarathi introduced her latest Dutch-language learning and storytelling books, marking another milestone in her ongoing effort to make Dutch learning more accessible and culturally meaningful for Indian learners.

The event brought together voices from education, trade, literature, and cultural exchange, including Mr Haresh Lalwani, a key figure in strengthening Indo-Dutch business relations, and Mr Ashok Mishra, known for his work on Indian philosophy and cultural studies.

Under the banner of her institute, The Dutch Door®, Richa has steadily built a distinctive approach to language education - one that combines structured learning with storytelling, cultural familiarity, and practical communication.

Having acquired her international certification from KU Leuven, Richa brings together academic grounding and practical classroom experience. Her journey into Dutch language education began through self-study, eventually leading her to earn the internationally recognised CNaVT Certification. In 2018, she founded The Dutch Door®ï¸ at a time when structured Dutch-learning resources in India were still limited.

What began as teaching material prepared for her own students gradually evolved into a broader educational vision.

Richa has been the first Indian to author a Dutch language textbook, Nederlands voor Kinderen, which was launched by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Mumbai in 2023. This book introduced beginners to Dutch through a simple illustrated format designed to reduce the fear often associated with learning a foreign language. Building on that foundation, her recent A2-level textbook, Nederlands voor tieners, encourages learners to move beyond basic vocabulary and grammar into practical communication, reading comprehension, and self-expression.

Alongside textbooks, storytelling has become an important extension of her work. Through Tapasya-De legendarische verhalen: Deel-1, 2 en 3 (Tapasya-The Legendary Tales: Part-1, 2 and 3), a three-part series inspired by Indian mythology, familiar stories are retold in Dutch, allowing learners to engage with the language through narratives they already recognise. Characters such as Ganesha, Krishna, Hanuman, and Ravana appear not as distant literary figures, but as part of a familiar cultural world that makes comprehension feel natural and intuitive.

These books are a celebration of India's stories, India's spirit, and India's growing voice on the world stage. They prove that our cultural wealth knows no language barrier. Through these works, Richa hopes to share India's stories, traditions, and values with international audiences while making language learning more culturally meaningful and accessible.

This blend of language and cultural familiarity lies at the heart of Richa's teaching philosophy. By connecting learning with stories readers already understand, she creates an environment where language develops organically rather than mechanically. Supported by illustrations and accessible narration, her books aim to transform reading from a classroom exercise into an engaging experience.

Published by StoryMirror Infotech Pvt. Ltd., with visual development by PopWorks Design House LLP, the books represent years of classroom interaction, experimentation, and refinement. Richa also acknowledges the guidance and encouragement of mentors, such as Thomas van Berckel and Marijanne Joshi Polderman, who have supported her over the years.

Through her institute, publications, and evolving teaching methods, Richa Gujarathi continues to contribute to a growing space where language learning becomes more than academic instruction. Her work reflects the idea that language is not simply something to study, but something to experience, understand, and share across cultures.
