For car owners who want to preserve their vehicle's original paint, paint protection film (PPF) has become one of the most effective ways to create a physical shield between the paint and the outside world.
But developing a film that can handle stone chips on highways, dust and debris in traffic, tight parking spaces, minor scratches from everyday use, intense summer heat and long-term exposure to the elements is not as simple as putting a protective layer over automotive paint.
It requires materials that can absorb impacts, remain clear, resist environmental exposure and maintain their performance over time. And to develop this revolutionary PPF technology, Aegis Films conducted 3 years of rigorous research & development (R&D) on Indian road conditions.
Aegis PPF was developed around a simple observation: Indian roads demand a different approach to paint protection.
"Many PPFs are developed around European roads, weather and environmental conditions. India presents its own combination of challenges, from extreme summer temperatures and dust to uneven roads, flying debris and dense urban traffic, says Anckur Sama, founder and CEO of Aegis Films and CarzSpa Detailing Studios.
He adds, "Rather than simply following existing PPF formulations, the R&D team at Aegis Films began looking at how different materials could be combined to overcome the limitations of conventional films."
That process eventually led to one of Aegis Films' defining technological developments: the combination of Polycarbonate and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU).
Aegis Films spent three years in research and development working on how Polycarbonate and TPU could be combined into a single paint protection film.
TPU has long been an important material in PPF because of its flexibility and self-healing properties. Polycarbonate, meanwhile, is known for its toughness and strength and is used in demanding applications across industries.
Bringing the two together required more than simply layering one material over another. Aegis developed a patented Polycarbonate-TPU fusion technology designed to combine the strengths of both materials into a more advanced film.
The result was the Aegis XG Series, a new generation of PPF designed around strength, clarity, durability and long-term performance. According to Anckur, the resulting film is developed to be three times tougher than regular PPF, heal faster and maintain clarity for longer than standard TPU films.
TPU provides the flexibility and self-healing characteristics that have made it a popular material for modern PPF. Polycarbonate adds another dimension, contributing greater toughness and structural strength to the film.
When these materials are fused, it creates a protective film that can withstand more demanding everyday conditions while maintaining the qualities expected from premium PPF. And this is particularly relevant for Indian car owners.
It now has enhanced impact resistance, scratch resistance, optical clarity, self-healing and long-term durability.
The Aegis range currently includes Aegis Clear PPF, Aegis Matt PPF, Aegis Prism coloured PPF and the XG Series, allowing car owners to choose protection based on their vehicle, driving conditions and desired finish.
The XG Series takes this technology further with multiple thickness options
For car owners looking for a PPF coating for car, the Aegis range offers multiple protection options backed by advanced film technology and professional installation through the CarzSpa network.
The brand currently states that its products are installed across India through 150+ dedicated detailing studios spanning 80+ Indian cities.
