He has served as Head of the Physics Department and Vice Principal and is also a Senior Examiner for the International Baccalaureate (IB). As Founder and Director of PION Academy and Research Centre, he has mentored students from India and several countries, including Singapore, Indonesia, Dubai, Thailand, and the United States. In this conversation, Dr. Biswas shares his views on education reforms and preparing students for global opportunities.
Q. India is witnessing significant education reforms. How do you view these changes ?
Dr. Sananjay Biswas:
The ongoing reforms are a positive step towards making education more student-centric and future-ready. There is a welcome shift from rote learning to conceptual understanding, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. Today's education system must prepare students not only to score well in examinations but also to adapt to a rapidly changing global environment. International curricula have followed this approach for years, and it is encouraging to see similar principles being integrated into mainstream education.
Q. What inspired you to establish PION Academy and Research Centre ?
Dr. Sananjay Biswas:
After teaching for over 25 years in international schools, I realised that many students needed personalised mentoring beyond the classroom. This inspired me to establish PION Academy and Research Centre, where we focus on conceptual learning, critical thinking, research, and academic excellence. Our aim is to nurture students who are not only academically strong but also prepared to excel globally.
Q. How does PION Academy help students secure admission to leading international universities ?
Dr. Sananjay Biswas:
At PION Academy, we maintain small batch sizes and provide personalised mentoring, chapter-wise worksheets, a dedicated laboratory and library, and world-class Physics textbooks authored by me. Our emphasis on conceptual understanding, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and research enables students to compete confidently at the highest level.
Our students have earned admissions to prestigious institutions, including Yale University, the University of Oxford, Stanford University, Imperial College London, Carnegie Mellon University, Northwestern University, UC Berkeley, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, NYU Stern, UC San Diego, Tufts University, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, King's College London, USC Viterbi School of Engineering, the University of Warwick, the University of Virginia, Indiana University Bloomington, and Barnard College.
Q. Can you share some memorable success stories of your students ?
Dr. Sananjay Biswas:
Over the years, I have had the privilege of mentoring students who are now studying at some of the world's finest universities. Watching them succeed at institutions such as Yale, Oxford, Stanford, Imperial College London, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Cornell University, and UC Berkeley has been immensely rewarding. Their achievements reflect not only their dedication and hard work but also the importance of strong academic mentoring and a solid conceptual foundation.
Q. What message would you like to give to students and parents ?
Dr. Sananjay Biswas:
Success is not achieved by memorising facts but by developing curiosity, discipline, and a genuine love for learning. Parents should encourage children to ask questions, explore new ideas, and think independently rather than focusing solely on marks. With the right guidance, perseverance, and mindset, every student can unlock their potential and compete successfully on the global stage.
