Aamir Khan-starrer 'Dangal' released earlier this month in China and has been shattering box-office records. Chinese feminist groups, however, have come down heavily on Nitesh Tiwari's film.

They feel Dangal perpetuates stereotyoes about how a father forces his daughters to live their lives according to his whims and fancies. Discussions on the patriarchal values have sparked an online backlash.

A viewer said, "The father's values make me vomit. He forces his daughters to live a certain type of life with his dream to make them a champion. The movie is not about breaking gender stereotypes. It's knee-deep in prejudice." Another viewer was quoted as saying, "The movie reeks of patriarchy and male chauvinism."

Wei Tingting, director of the Guangzhou Gender and Sexuality Education Center has said those comments only show public's anxiety around feminism.
