Amitabh Bachchan breaks silence on retirement rumours, slams media for misinterpreting his post

Amitabh Bachchan has dismissed rumours about his retirement, clarifying that his `time to retire` remark was not about quitting hosting or acting. The veteran superstar also criticised the media for misinterpreting his blog and set the record straight that he has no plans of taking retirement.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has recently addressed the ongoing retirement rumours on social media. He also slammed the individuals and media for misconstruing his earlier blog post. The veteran actor took to his blog and refuted the speculation about his retirement, clarifying that he did not mean to retire from his acting or hosting career; rather, he meant that it was time to end the day and go to bed.

Amitabh Bachchan rubbishes retirement rumours

The 83-year-old superstar wrote in the blog, "it's late, time to retire... ' which we all know means retire to bed; it's late... and this is the Media - the CONSCIENCE of a NATION - THE ULTIMATE INFORMER!!"

He also attached a newspaper piece regarding his 'retirement.' Big B stated that he did not use the word "retire" to put an end to his acting or hosting responsiblites, but rather it was time to go to bed and retire for the day.

Hence, he set the record straight that he isn't retiring any time soon and wrote, "Ji nahin huzoor, main kaam se retire nahin ho raha hoon; Angrezi mein iska matlab hota hai main ab sone jaa raha hoon. Aur wahan maanyavar aapko aane ka nimantran nahin hai. (No, sir, I am not retiring from work any time soon; (retire) in English means going to sleep. And you are not invited there)."

Amitabh Bachchan on the work front

For the unversed, Amitabh Bachchan is currently hosting the 18th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati. The actor has been associated with the game show since 2000. However, for a year in between, in 2007, Shah Rukh Khan took over as host.

On the film front, Amitabh was last seen in the 2024 film Vettaiyan with Rajinikanth. He also became the narrator for Farhan Akhtar's 120 Bahadur. Currently, he is working on Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2, in which he will reprise his role as Ashwatthama.

The sequel will also see Prabhas and Kamal Haasan reprising their roles as Bhairava and Supreme Yaskin, respectively.
