Batwara 1947, backed by Aamir Khan Productions, is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year. Set to release on August 14, 2026, the film has been creating buzz ever since its announcement. The poster and teaser of the film have further heightened the excitement around the partition-based drama. Now, the film has been cleared by the CBFC, ahead of release.
Batwara 1947 is set against the backdrop of India's Partition and promises to tell a deeply emotional story of love, sacrifice, and resilience. Weeks ahead of ots release, Batwara 1947 has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts.
With the censor certification obtained, the film is now set for its scheduled theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
Notably, the film is based on Asghar Wajahat's drama Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. The movie is set against the backdrop of Partition and narrates the story of a Muslim family that shifts from India to Lahore.
The Mohajir family crosses over to Lahore and occupies an abandoned Hindu home during the 1947 partition. The narrative is centred on an elderly woman, played by Shabana Azmi, who refuses to leave the house and the issues that arise between the Mohajir family and her.
The film stars a stellar ensemble cast of Shabana Azmi, Sunny Deol, Preity G Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. Notably, the film marks the much-awaited reunion of filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol after nearly three decades. They have previously worked in hits such as Damini, Ghayal, and Ghatak.
Previously titled Lahore 1947, Batwara 1947 is produced under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, and is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi. The music of the film is composed by A. R. Rahman, while the lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar.
Batwara 1947 is set to release on August 14, 2026, however, it will not enjoy a solo release. It will be clashing with Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2, which is also scheduled to hit the big screens on the same day.
