Ahead of its theatrical release, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has cleared the CBFC hurdle with a U/A certificate after several modifications. From replacing cuss words to blurring scenes, the makers have been asked to make several changes. The film is all set to hit the big screen on June 5, 2026.
As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, several changes were directed to the filmmakers ahead of the release. The CBFC's Examining Committee (EC) asked the makers to replace a word with a suitable alternative at four instances. It also instructed them to modify a visual featuring an obscene hand gesture.
Additionally, the name of a condom brand was ordered to be blurred, while references to its flavours were muted. A scene displaying the names of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes was shortened to six seconds through visual edits. The makers were also asked to crop and zoom into the faces and upper bodies of dancing women in certain shots, as their undergarments were visible.
The film has been granted a U/A certificate ahead of its theatrical release. The report further adds that the film's final approved runtime stands at 136 minutes, which translates to 2 hours and 16 minutes.
A major legal battle recently erupted between Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Entertainment, Tips Industries and its promoters, Ramesh Taurani and Kumar Taurani, and filmmaker David Dhawan. Bhagnani has reportedly filed a Rs 400 crore lawsuit against the alleged unauthorised use of songs from the 1999 hit film Biwi No. 1 in their upcoming film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. The dispute particularly revolves around the iconic tracks Chunnari Chunnari and Ishq Sona Hai.
However, Tips Music and the makers have strongly rejected the allegations. The company has asserted that it is the lawful owner of the music rights and has described Bhagnani's claims as baseless and legally unsustainable.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai marks the fourth professional association of the father-son duo, David and Varun Dhawan. Notably, it is also David's last directorial venture, as he is retiring. The movie also features Mouni Roy, Chunky Panday, Maniesh Paul, Jimmy Shergill, Rakesh Bedi, and Ali Asgar in supporting roles.
