Ananya Panday and Lakshya's romantic drama Chand Mera Dil released in theatres on May 22. Interestingly, the makers opted for a relatively low-key promotional campaign, with the lead actors not making too many public appearances ahead of the release. Despite the limited promotions, the film managed to hold steady over its opening weekend after a moderate start at the box office.
Directed by Vivek Soni, the film released a day after Mohanlal's highly anticipated Drishyam 3 hit theatres. In its first weekend, Chand Mera Dil earned a modest Rs 11.10 crore nett in India.
According to trade tracking website Sacnilk, the romantic drama collected Rs 4.32 crore on Sunday, showing slight growth from Saturday's Rs 3.75 crore collection. The film's total domestic gross collection now stands at Rs 13.23 crore.
Overseas, the film recorded a comparatively low performance, collecting around Rs 1.50 crore during the weekend. Combined with the domestic figures, the worldwide box office collection of the Lakshya and Ananya Panday starrer currently stands at Rs 14.73 crore.
The trailer of Chand Mera Dil presents the relationship between Chandni and Aarav as intense, emotional and deeply troubled. It opens with Aarav desperately apologising to Chandni as she pushes him away, hinting at unresolved conflict between the two.
As the trailer progresses, it showcases flashbacks of their romance, layered with emotional turmoil and heartbreak. One scene shows Aarav turning aggressive before later seeking forgiveness, while another features his sister admitting that even she would struggle to forgive him if he were not her brother.
The trailer positions the film as a love story built around longing, emotional conflict and self-respect, with Chandni eventually declaring, "Self-respect is more important for me."
Chand Mera Dil is backed by Dharma Productions, with Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Somen Mishra and Marijke Desouza serving as co-producers.
Director Vivek Soni has also contributed to the story and screenplay alongside Tushar Paranjape. The dialogues have been written by the duo along with Akshat Ghildial.
