Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is known for her outspoken personality and never shying away from expressing her views on different subjects. Recently, a claim attributed to her went viral on social media. The actress hit back at online trolls for spreading misinformation in her name. She reacted to a fabricated comment linking her with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Calling out the fake narrative, the actor-politician also raised concerns about the lack of respect shown towards women, even in political discourse.
The controversy began on May 3 after an Instagram meme page allegedly shared a doctored quote claiming Kangana had said she would marry Rahul Gandhi if he joined the BJP. This came after politician Raghav Chadha quit Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party). The unverified post quickly gained traction across social media, sparking memes, debates, and mixed reactions online.
The viral post suggested that Kangana had made the remark in her trademark bold style, prompting users to speculate whether it was sarcasm, political commentary, or simply another controversial statement. However, no verified interview, official statement, or credible source emerged to support the claim.
Responding to the controversy on May 4, Kangana reposted the meme on her Instagram Stories and firmly dismissed the claim. In a strongly worded message, she slammed the spread of misinformation and questioned the lack of dignity afforded to women in politics.
"How pathetic is this fake news. No dignity for women even in politics. Shame on those who are spreading this fake news," she wrote.
This isn't the first public clash between Kangana and Rahul Gandhi. The actor-politician has previously criticised several of his speeches in Parliament, often taking sharp digs at the Congress leader over political issues.
Meanwhile, along with her political duties, Ranaut is also focused on her film career. Her last film was Emergency which was released in 2025 after much delays. She will next be seen in the film Queen 2, a sequel to her hit film Queen (2014). The film directed by Vikas Bahl will see the protagonist journey around India in the sequel.
