Emraan Hashmi is all set to revisit the horror genre, but this time with a musical twist. Titled Rooh, the upcoming film promises a blend of horror, romance and music, with Tips Films and Tips Music joining the project as producers. Directed by Mayank Sharma, the film is scheduled to arrive in theatres in 2027 and will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
The collaboration also marks a reunion between Emraan Hashmi and Kumar Taurani, who previously worked together on the actor's Bollywood debut, Footpath (2003). Taurani expressed excitement about joining hands with Hashmi once again, saying the association holds special significance for him. According to Variety's report, Tips Films will present the project, while Tips Music will handle its soundtrack. The film is being produced under the banner of Vicked Films.
Horror is not an unfamiliar territory for Hashmi. The actor has previously featured in films such as Raaz: The Mystery Continues, Raaz 3, Ek Thi Daayan and Raaz: Reboot. His last outing in the genre was the 2021 supernatural horror film Dybbuk.
In an earlier interview with Mid-Day ahead of Dybbuk's release, Hashmi spoke about his association with horror films, saying, "The genre paid [off] for me." He also discussed the need for better storytelling and filmmaking in Indian horror cinema.
Speaking about the project, Hashmi highlighted the importance of music in his films and how it will shape Rooh's narrative. "With ROOH, we want music that captures the soul of the film, which is deeply romantic, haunting and rooted in emotion," the actor said.
Directed by Mayank Sharma and written by Sharma and Vishal Kapoor, the film is produced by Kumar Taurani, Girissh Kumar, Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna, with Vikas Sahni serving as co-producer. Rooh is expected to release in theatres in 2027 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu
