Dibyendu Bhattacharya is gearing up for the release of Alpha, the upcoming spy thriller starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, and Bobby Deol. In an exclusive conversation with mid-day, the acclaimed actor opened up about his role in the film, his experience working with the star-studded cast, and why he believes female-led action films are the need of the hour.

On working with Alia Bhatt and Bobby Deol

Unlike many of his previous roles, Dibyendu revealed that audiences will see him in a completely different avatar in Alpha. "I'm not playing a cop here but a doctor. You'll have to watch the film to see what my character does in the film," he said, refusing to divulge further details about his role.

The actor also had glowing words for director Shiv Rawail, with whom he reunites after The Railway Men. "That experience is also fantastic. Shiv is exactly like family. He is like my younger brother. I worked with him in The Railway Men, and now I am working in Alpha."

Having collaborated with Yash Raj Films on multiple occasions, Dibyendu admitted that returning to the production house always feels special. "Working with Yash Raj is a lot of fun. It's a good production house. I have worked with Yash Raj a lot in the past. For Habib Faisal, I trained Arjun Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Zahra Agha and Vaani Kapoor as an acting coach. Later, I worked with them in The Railway Men. So working there is a comfort zone. It feels like home."

Speaking about his co-stars, Dibyendu shared that he already knew Alia Bhatt through their previous association. "I know Alia because she was the executive producer on Poacher. We met during the promotions," he said.

He also reflected on his association with Anil Kapoor before talking about working with Bobby Deol for the first time. "I worked with Anil Kapoor in 24 Season 1. I am working with Bobby Deol for the first time. He is a fantastic human being. I love working with him. He is a very beautiful guy to work with."

Dibyendu Bhattacharya on why women lead films are a must

When asked whether Bollywood should embrace more women-led action films like Alpha, Dibyendu strongly backed the idea. "Why not? Of course. The Hollywood industry that we have followed has shown us what can be achieved in terms of content and narratives. Why are we afraid to bring those ideas here? Why can't a woman-centric film simply be a woman-centric film? A woman can absolutely be a fighter or the hero of a film. They always can be, and it is important to have women also lead such stories."

Alpha, headlined by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, marks the first female-led film in Yash Raj Films' Spy Universe. With Bobby Deol playing the antagonist and an ensemble supporting cast, the film is among the year's most anticipated releases. Dibyendu believes the project is a significant step forward, not only because of its scale but also because it places women at the forefront of an action spectacle.
