Manoj Bajpayee's upcoming film, Governor, has been grabbing headlines ever since the trailer of the film was released. The film's premise is India's turbulent 1990-91 economic crisis. While there have been many conversations surrounding the movie's political presentation, director Chinmay Mandlekar has now clarified that the upcoming film is not intended to be a political drama.
While speaking to Times Now, Chinmay Mandlekar revealed that the movie will focus on individuals who were never talked about. The director shared, "Of course, you can see certain figures from Indian politics, like Mr Chandrashekhar, who was our Prime Minister at that time, and Mr Yashwant Sinha, who was our Finance Minister. Characters representing them are seen in the trailer as well. But the film is not about politicians."
After the release of its trailer, the film has sparked curiosity surrounding its gripping glimpse at a crucial yet lesser-known chapter of India's economic history. The film is based on the turbulent financial crisis of the 1990s, and it blends political tension, power struggles, and institutional drama. Although the story is rooted in a specific period, Manoj earlier said that he was equally focused on making sure his character's language and diction felt authentic.
While speaking about preparing for the role, Manoj Bajpayee earlier admitted that he was nervous about getting the language right, particularly about diction, since he understands how jarring it can feel when a regional language or accent is spoken incorrectly on screen.
He said, "I was very scared and nervous because, as an actor, especially people like me, I don't like to go wrong with language and diction. I am from Bihar. So, I know how much I get offended when a language is spoken incorrectly."
Governor is based on true events and explores the financial turmoil that shocked India during the economic collapse of the 1990s. The film's trailer offers a glimpse into a world shaped by crisis, survival, power, and political urgency, as Manoj Bajpayee takes centre stage as a Governor. The film includes impactful dialogues, aiming to bring a significant chapter of India's economic history.
