Quality over gimmicks

Chasing trends has long been Bollywood's favourite sport - if something clicks, expect a queue of copycats right behind it. But Shahid Kapoor doesn't buy the convenient blame game around "distracted audiences" and "short attention spans". At the teaser launch of Vishal Bhardwaj's O'Romeo, the actor insisted that moviegoers still love the big-screen experience. According to Shahid, the industry needs to look inward before pointing fingers outward. In a chat with Prakhar Gupta on his YouTube channel, the actor, without mincing words, said, "We are not making as many good films as we should." Shahid added that the trouble begins when marketing and promotions start overshadowing the soul of a project. "If you are seeking something authentic, human, spontaneous, then you should let it happen. Don't try to control it." Now that's a reality check that needs no filter or fluff.
