Ikka director Siddharth P Malhotra is set to bring late Meena Kumari's story to the big screen with Kamal Aur Meena. While the film was announced in 2024, the details about the casting have been kept under wraps. Rumours are rife that Kiara Advani will step into the role of the legendary actress. There was also a report stating that Saif Ali Khan and Triptii Dimri have been approached for the film. Amid speculations, Malhotra has urged all to stop speculating and confirmed he will announce the details once they are confirmed.
Malhotra wrote, "Absolutely touched and delighted by the love and interest around Kamal Aur Meena." However, he made a humble request to "stop the speculation" and urged everyone not to believe unconfirmed reports.
He added, "We are actively working on the film, and the cast, studio and other details will be officially announced by us once everything is signed and locked. Unnecessary conjecture doesn't help the film, the actors or the studios involved. When we have something official to share, we promise you'll hear it from us first. With gratitude for all the love and support."
This statement comes after Variety India reported that the makers are in advanced talks with Saif Ali Khan and Triptii Dimri to helm the project. A source told the portal, "The actors are in advanced discussions to play the lead roles. The makers are currently discussing the contracts and looking at shoot dates, as the project is in pre-production."
The title for the biopic, Kamal Aur Meena, was announced a year ago on social media. The film is being produced by Bilal Amrohi, Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi's grandson. The project will delve into the life of one of Hindi cinema's most iconic actors.
Confirming the film, Malhotra had written, "Talking about the project, Siddharth earlier said, "Kamal Aur Meena - a cinematic experience that promises to capture one of the most iconic love stories in the history of Hindi cinema. With access to over 500 handwritten letters exchanged between Kamal Sahaab and Meenaji, as well as personal journals detailing their life together, the insights and research we have in telling this story are invaluable."
There have been constant rumours that Kiara Advani may step into the shoes of the late Hindi cinema legend. While Malhotra didn't divulge names, he had told mid-day that he had finalised the leads.
