Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has broken her silence on the trolling criticising Bihar MLA and singer Maithili Thakur. The singer arrived at Mumbai's iconic Lalbaugcha Raja recently, in a luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan. She was seen arriving in a blue, chauffeur-driven Cullinan during her visit to the famous Ganpati pandal. After the visuals of her arrival went viral on social media, many slammed her over her car and bringing up her election affidavit
Taking to Instagram Stories, Kangana questioned why politicians who work for the public are expected to live without enjoying their personal success. She also argued that expecting public figures to "remain poor and lifeless" simply just because of their involvement in politics is irrational.
"Some people a'''' start to burn whenever they see politicians living a good life. Now our young MLA is getting trolled for using a luxury car. We may be inclined to social service but we also have our own careers, life and popularity. We selflessly work for public welfare but some people get so hurt if they see us living well, why not? Why can't we also live well? We are not even interested in public money but to expect us to remain poor and lifeless is so irrational," Kangana wrote.
The discussion surrounding the singer's car comes less than a year after Maithili made her political debut. The folk singer contested the 2025 Bihar assembly elections as a BJP candidate. During the eections, she defeated RJD leader Binod Mishra by a comfortable margin, making her the youngest MLA in Bihar.
Maithili was spotted during her visit to Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai. Videos of her arriving for darshan in the luxury SUV went viral online, prompting discussion online. Many users questioned the ownership of the car as well as its cost. Several reports also pointed out that the car in which Maithili was seen arriving was not confirmed to be owned by her.
For the unversed, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan is among the world's most expensive luxury SUVs in the country. Its ex-showroom price in India is priced at around Rs 10.50 crore. Amid the online backlash, Kangana has now came out in support of the young MLA.
