Kareena Kapoor has called out the herd mentality in the Hindi film industry, pointing to how the success of one film can spark a wave of similar stories. Citing Animal as an example, she questioned the rush to replicate its violence. Notably, the film starred her cousin Ranbir Kapoor. It went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2023.
In a new candid townhall interaction with Yuvaa, Kareena called out the herd mentality that still exists within the Hindi film industry. She said, "Our audience is smarter than we think. They know exactly when it's a good film and they want to watch it. So today it is not just about a young love story. All these things are very dated, ki abhi violence chal rahi hai⦠ki abhi Animal chal gayi toh chalo sab violence kar lete hai. We are herd mentality, what to say?"
She went on to add, "The young audience will ask the thought-provoking questions. Now filmmakers cannot go and make a film saying it's a comedy so people will definitely watch it! Not every film is going to make Rs 200 crore or Rs 500 crore. I feel like we are changing it and the audience is helping us."
Produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), Daayra is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Meghna Gulzar and stars Kareena Kapoor and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles. Inspired by true events, Daayra follows the aftermath of a crime that sparks widespread outrage across the country. The incident sets off a series of events and two investigations. The film will hit theatres on September 18, 2026. Kareena plays the role of a cop in the flick.
In a recent interview, she opened up about a decision from her younger years that she still regrets: leaving her education after Class 11 to pursue acting. While her gamble paid off professionally, the actor said the unfinished chapter remains with her.
Apart from this, Kareena has sparked major speculation among fans after her recent visit to filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's office in Mumbai. The actress's visit has left many curious if a collaboration between the two is finally on the cards nearly 25 years after the two reportedly fell out over Devdas.
