Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha producer claims Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana makers behind film's negative marketing

While Nitesh Tiwari's Ranbir Kapoor and Yash-starrer Ramayana gears up for release on Diwali 2026, another film based on the mythological epic, named Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha, was released in theatres last month. However, the film faced unfavourable reactions over its casting even before its release. As a result, when the film was released on September 25, it failed to make an impact at the box office. Now, producer Prakash Mahobiya has opened up about the failure and revealed that the team is now planning to re-release it.

Prakash Mahobiya alleges negative PR

During an interview with India Today, Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha's producer, Prakash Mahobiya, claimed that negative buzz surrounding the film was part of a wider campaign by a 'big-budget film' on the 'same subject' hinting at Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana.

Prakash said that negative comments about the film were intentionally circulated among YouTubers and influencers. He alleged, "It was negative marketing throughout. We never got a chance to reach our audience. The ones who watched our film really enjoyed it. But if they never got to see it, how will they even have an opinion?"

Without directly mentioning Ramayana, he added, "From what we have been told, there are other movies on the same subject coming in, the big-budget film. As far as we know, a lot of negative marketing opportunities have been given to YouTubers, influencers and other people. They are spreading wrong information and asking people not to watch our film."

When asked if he was accusing Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra's team, he said, "I don't know for sure, but that's what we are being told."

Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha is directed by Abhishek Singh, and stars Anjali Arora, Dev Sharma and Rajneish Duggal in lead roles. Ahead of its release, the film faced criticism over Anjali's casting as Sita as well as backlash over its VFX.

After its release on September 25, viewers pointed out several issues with the film, such as a scene showing one of the members of the Vanar Sena wearing spectacles. The backlash continued even after the film's release. According to Sacnilk, the film collected only Rs 46 lakh worldwide during its box office run.
